Integrated Systems Health Monitoring Using Smart Dust Mote Sensor Networks
نویسنده
چکیده
1.0 Project Goal Smart Dust motes are self-contained, millimeter-scale sensing and communication platforms for a massively distributed sensor network [61,71]. They will ultimately be around the size of a grain of sand and will contain micro/nano sensors, computational ability, bi-directional wireless communications, and a power supply. There exist endless possibilities for the applications of these devices. The wireless sensing capabilities of Smart Dust, combined with its microscopic size give everything in the physical world the potential to be ‘smart’. Accordingly, the goal of this project was to complete a feasibility study of prototype Smart Dust motes for sensing and monitoring in advanced systems health monitoring in space flight applications.

This project focused on office lighting monitoring and control based on the new MEMS ‘smart dust mote’ sensor technology. Benchmarking tests on the target office space were used to estimate the potential energy saving and environmental benefits that could be achieved by introducing smart motes into an intelligent lighting control system. A sensor validation and fusion algorithm was developed to...

1 ABSTRACT: A risk monitoring of buildings for natural and man-made hazards mitigation is discussed in this paper. Ubiquitous monitoring using a network of wireless sensors is one of the most promising emerging technologies for this purpose. A smart sensor based on the “Berkeley Mote” platform was introduced, and application to the next generation of structural health monitoring and control was...
متن کاملExploring the Limits of System Integration with Smart Dust
The Smart Dust project aims to explore the limits of system integration by packing an autonomous sensing, computing, and communication node into a cubic millimeter mote that will form the basis of massive distributed sensor networks, thus demonstrating that a complete system can be integrated into 1 mm3. Effectively exploring this space requires new approaches to design that emphasize energy an...

A medium is a medium is a medium. As the sentence says, there is no difference between occult and technological media. Their truth is fatality, their field the unconscious. Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. The urban ether swims with a multitude of invisible particles: the residue of ash and aerosols, signals and light. Circulating through the city is the dus...
